Malaysia's MPs say the darnest things...
So I was browsing through the NST Online today morning when suddenly I saw this hilarious piece of news:
MEMBERS of Parliament should be given first preference to buy cars seized by the Customs Department before they are auctioned.
Datuk Mohd Said Yusof (BN-Jasin) said MPs should be able to buy the cars at special prices. "Otherwise, how can a poor MP like me afford an expensive car? Of course, civil servants should also be given first preference," he said when debating the Excise (Amendment) Bill 2005.
So that got me thinking. Isn't it the main reponsibility of a MP to debate laws and bills regarding the welfare of the people? How come this MP is more concerned with getting a expensive car at discounted rates? And why do civil servants deserve to get preference when it comes to getting expensive cars at discounted rates? Why expensive cars in the first place? Proton cars not good enough for them?
It's all pretty hilarious when you think about it though.
